Summary of our achievements throughout each semester

Fall 2008

1000 Pitches Competition
  • Largest Collegiate Competition, obtained 1044 Pitches from UM Students by a video submission process
  • Distributed $7000 in seven pitch catagories (social, environmental, health, technology, global business, local business, and green campus)
  • MPowered sponsored the Green Campus Category - students pitched how the university could be more environmentally conscious
  • Partnered with the Center for Entrepreneurship, Zell-Lurie Institute, Medical Innovation Center, and the Office of VP for Research
  • Sponsored by RPM Ventures, Arboretum Ventures, and Bizdom University
Feel the Music Competition
  • Feel the Music competition is a call for new developments in methods, technologies and devices that allow experiencing music without the sense of hearing.
  • Hosted a kick-off concert, bringing together 100+ students to form teams.

Winter 2008

NASA Partnership
  • Partnered with UM student chapter of AIAA* to host NASA
  • NASA announced a competition to spur innovation in aerospace
  • Awards of $50,000 - 100,000 made available to students
  • American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Silicon Valley Trip
  • Partnered with the Center for Entrepreneurship
  • 30 students brought to Silicon Valley
  • Student made pitches to venture capitalists and interacted with successful entrepreneur alumni

Entrepreneurial Opportunities Day – Spring
  • Partnered with the Department of Labor-sponsored MORE Program, the CoE, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Ann Arbor Spark
  • 100 companies attended to engage with and hire UM students

Fall 2007

Entrepreneurial Opportunities Day - Fall 2007
  • Hosted October 2007 on the North Campus Diag
  • 20 small, high-tech, high-growth companies
  • Prototype for a larger-scaled Spring fair
Venture Capitalist, RPM Competition
  • Hosted October 2007 in the Michigan League
  • RPM Ventures, RPM 10 Competition announced for UM students
  • Distributed out a total of $75,000 in funding for web-based start ups to work over summer
Approving and Launching 3 UM Mini-Courses
  • Collaborated with Center for Entrepreneurship to launch 3 new one-credit mini courses
